with 240 hp at the wheels it should just about run a flat 12sec 1/4mile..

i dunno, that'd be record breaking stuff from a 1.2ltr, let alone an internally standard one!

sounds like an a series with 240hp to me?

it ran a 13.9 @109mph but it popped out of third halfway down the strip, and was too late for a second run.
should have a good 12 in her if the diff/gearbox hold up...

Finn has run 11.97. I wonder how much power he has?

You can see the rocker cover and unmistakeable chrome oil cap. Its an A-series.

Aside from all the obvious reasons already discussed I still reckon that hard revving sound gives it away straight of the bat. And Laney, what would you know, you don't even have an A series (the ute is looking tops though).

Troy Trepanier's Blowfish 'cuda has a 4cyl with almost 2000rwhp. It broke a class record at Bonneville salt flats using a 'conservative' 950rwhp. It has a 2.8L displacement so a 'conservative' estimate would state that someone out there could get 400rwhp out of an a12. Now there's a challenge boys!!!

apparently its a stock a12 with a well sorted turbo setup making around 240rwhp.

I can hardly imagine that it's a 'stock' A12 that is capable of producing 240hp at the rear wheels. This would surely translate to about 300 at the flywheel

The pistons in the stock A12 are hypoeutectic [less than 12% silicone content] & are perfect for a 80 odd hp engine but will not hold up for long with the heat that comes from a power output of about 250hp/litre. Surely forgings would be needed to help get the compression to the right level & to live under the tremendous heat loads.
I don't think that the original unmodified round ports & small valves in a 'stock' 1200 head would pass enough air, even at high boost, with the original 'stock' cam, & boost would be dependant on the exhaust gas output through those little 28mm 'stock' exhaust valves which would be sorely tested at the temperatures involved with that power output.
I doubt that the 'stock' 1200 valve springs would hold up too well at those rpm & boost levels either, even the double GX springs, particularly with the heavy 'stock' lifters, pushrods & rockers.
I would be a bit worried about the untouched 'stock' con rods at those engine speeds too & I would stay well away from the flywheel since it is attached to a 'stock' undoweled crankshaft.

To be honest, I have my doubts that there is very much that is 'stock' about this engine at all apart from the displacement.
Power output from this capacity is none the less pretty damn impressive for a two valve pushrod engine.

Oh yeah, it still mekes A series noises for my money too.

cumon guys, you must remember this being argued over A LOT before.
We were all told that the "bottom end" was still stock, which should include the pistons but i rekon that bull (agree with dodge).
We were told however that it has extensive head work with larger ports valves etc that he straped to a "smokey" ol bottom end for the comp.

Now myself, i have a few douts but the proof is in the pudding (vid), even though its only a dyno figure that can be very wrong if in the wrong hands. Even so, it still looks like its pulling something fierce for an a12.

WHERES THE FREAKING ENGINE BAY PICS!!!!!

EDIT: heres the original thread
