I'll have a go at answering this...

First of all, then head will have oval shaped intake ports. It'll also have double valve springs and larger intake and exhaust valves.

Intake: 35mm (optional 37mm)
Exhaust: 29mm (optional 30mm)

That's the head covered.

I think most (if not all) GX models came with a dual carbie setup as well.

Look for GX badges on the exterior if they haven't taken off already.

A true GX head has extra-large oval ports (there are three different oval port sizes).

Most heads with oval ports and large valves are not GX heads. They are just regular A14 or A15 heads.

Also, B-210 GX cars didn't come with GX heads or engines ... In the USA, GX heads only came from Datsun Competition, then later as "used engines" from Japan.

The best way to tell is to measure the ports. See if they match your twin-carb manifold. See A-type Cylinder Heads.

I thought that you had already determined that it was a GX engine.
Even for a regular A14, the price seems good enough.

The 1200 & A12 GX cylinder heads certainly have the largest ports of the production cylinder heads, but they have the smaller valve sizes while the 'good' A14/15 heads have a slightly smaller port size, but larger valves, so what you lose in one area, you pick up in another. Quote:

There were no 'optional' valve sizes. The smaller sizes were used in the A10, 1200/A12 heads while the larger size was used in the A13/14/15 heads
As for the A12A, ... beats me.

There was a round port head with the GX/A14/15 manifold bolt pattern that was used on the 'economy' version of the A14 engine.

The right drive JDM GX models all came with the twin carbs, however the left drive models seem not to have been able to use this induction due to interference problems & any left drive car with the GX label will have a standard single carb engine.

The gen-u-ine GX cylinder head will have the four coolant holes under the inlet ports as per the photo in d1t's post as these are required to provided heated coolant under the inlet runners of the dual Hitachi manifold.

greasemonkey - are you saying that the car is a "B210GX" - if so, it doesn't have a true GX motor like the kind your probably thinking it is.

I sold earlier this year, well last now, a 77 B210GX that as far as I know it was just a standard A14 motor w/a 5 spd. in it. No double valve springs, dual carbs, no goodies other then standard.

I think it was just the badging & a few options on the car that made it a "GX" model - enhanced interior, 5 spd., tach, etc... not high performance engine.

just my 2 cents worth.

Yes that's right. USA model "GX" B-210 was only a trim option. It had the standard motor. In Japan they had the A14T twin-carb engine.
