I would say 3" is the way to go.
As for it passing the diff, over here in QLD it has to go over the diff. In my sunny the 3" pipe was a bit of a squeeze getting it to clear everything as it's nearly 3 times the size of the original

this is not going over the pits and if it did i would swap the exorst has its goin to be stainless steal tig welded and very loud... no way i would cut it to put in a nother muffuler for the coppas

so you would go 3 inch and under the diff ?

Yeah, I would go 3" bacause forced induction engines dont need back pressure the same as n/a engines do. So i have been told.
And if it doesn't need to be legal then go under the diff, as it will flow better if you dont have to put a big half-round bend in the pipe to go over ther diff.
Or just finish it before the diff with a little dumpy tip or something.

3" & over the diff for me.......
Nothing to do with the law.... I figured I'd be more likely to be dropping the diff out & having the 'zorst over the diff means 1 less thing to unbolt.
So far my decision seems to be well founded.... I've had the diff out 1/2 dozen times for various reasons & haven't had to touch the exhaust.
