I've just had the brakes fixed and next week she's going in for a tune - seems to be running rough on choke and at startup, but is magic when warmed up, so probably just some adjustment in the carby and timing.

Welcome to the board! Your car looks great.

I think most A series run pretty rough on the choke / startup with the standard carb! I've had mine for 9 years, and it's always been the same despite carby rebuilds, new jets etc. Runs like a dream once it warms up, and doesn't stall when it's cold, so I stopped worrying about it long ago

I've been thinking about rebuilding a later electric choke carb and giving that a go (I've had several bluebirds that have always run fine with their hitachi carbs and electric choke).

I think you have the right idea for the mods. That car looks in too good a condition to butcher for a major engine transplant. The venetian is definitely a great idea, as is keeping the AM radio.

When you've got the look down pat I reckon you should go for some mild up grades on the old A12. Bigger carby, cam, headwork, all just to give it a little more poke. I so want a car just like it!!
