MY 2 CENTS..................

Stuff the V8! if i were you, i would either work the L16 or put in a worked L20, my mate had a 1500 ute that blew the motor, so he bought a cheap L20 for a couple of hundred bucks, and spend a couple of hundred more on cam and twin webbers, the thing friggin flies!!!!! its only a work ute, but he does fishtails to work!

much easier conversion than a full V8 setup, easliy spend couple thousand on a full V8 setup, L series you can get a kick ass set up for a couple of hundred, $1000 at the most

Thats my 2cents!

Yeah, repco used to make some real kick ass motors back in the day. Some real original stuff too.

You have done three engine conversions so far? If that's true, then you should know that it's torque that kills deivelines, not RPM & if the stock driveline could hold a 350 chev engine then it's too big, strong & heavy for the original application.

You also should know that a power upgrade goes hand in hand with suspension & brake upgrades, yet not one single question or comment about either of these things. Not even a hint about rectifying thirty years or more of general wear & tear.

General rule of thumb, ..... upgrade the chassis first. Make sure the suspension & brakes are right up to scratch, ..... then do your engine conversion.

But after three engine conversions, you already knew that.

Talk talk talk... It won't work? Tell that to the dozens of guys running V8s in their Datsun 520s (Datsun 1500 pickups). Did you know the diff is an H190 unit?

DD's right, it is a pretty common conversion for the 520 (and even more so in the 720). But everyone else is right in saying the chassis and driveline need to be upgraded to warrant the conversion. I've yet to see one in Oz that isn't running at least a BW diff behind anything up to 308.

A good conversion would be the old Holden (Buick) 3.8 V6. Cheap (and plentiful) motor, standard diff would be able to take the torque, only minor upgrades needed in the front end, and it would haul ass.
