Could you take some pics of your engine...specially to the bellhousing and how did you bolt your engine to the crossmember...show some light on your conversion! its very interesting...

To provide a possible solution to the question that you asked, I would suggest that to be able to use a 300hp engine in front of a 60 series gearbox would require a relatively simple change to your car.

Refit the original wheels to the rear, with stock cross ply tyres, & inflate them to the maximum permitted pressure. I suspect that you will have no gearbox problems after that & since gearbox life was the sole focus of the question, this will help, but tyre wear may be increased.
Very old tyres are recomended.

put the whole thing with a fwd box in the rear problem solved or hybrid two bellhousings and run a toyota box or mitsu sigma box.

how much torque is the question
mazda rotary box, the larger toyota boxes or nissan silvia/skyline box would be typical
toploader T5 T10 tremec ,heavy but strong
whatever you do your going to be making a bell housing

Sigma astron version have the borg x warner 5 speed, can handle a fair bit of grunt and separate bellhousing to boot.
The jap version gearbox has no sep bellhousing unfortunatelly.

oh don, i can see whats coming for the 120y..... a 2nd hand slightly abused ex v8 gearbox for the a series.
