what are the best value mods to make to an A14, say for less than or equal to $500
and also for $1000
obviously different ppl charge diff prices but just generally...

i appreciate previous comments on getting hp but for dollar figure results what are the best options as i have no idea what it costs for all that stuff and what to do first.......

If anyone wants to help out by selling me appropriate parts then that would be great too

thanks

For $500 AUD, go with a good used Weber 32/36, which fits on the stock inlet and will wake up the A14 at higher RPMs. Add extractors and and you're ready to go. Maybe lightening the flywheel will fit in the budget as well. I'm sure the Aussies will tell me if this is unrealistic budget.

Twin sidedrafts are better, but would probably cost more than $500.

If you are a do-it-youself type, you could probably fabricate a turbo setup for $500 by adapting used tubo parts off another car. This would be the biggest bang for your buck.

I would say for $500, intake and exhaust mods will give best bang for the buck. If you don't have an oval port head, that makes a big difference too. I got my 40mm Dellorto's for $150 used on Ebay, suitable used intake for less than $100, and brackets/gaskets/etc, for $100....NISMO header costs around $250, and you'd have to get a new exhaust to match it (~$100)...but for $700 total it dropped like 1.5 -2 seconds off my quarter mile time. Lightweight flywheel/heavy duty clutch also wakes up the A series a lot but cost me about the same ($700) however results are nowhere near the same as intake/exhaust/head mods. Good luck!

coming from an aussie

i agree but prices will be around:

weber 32/36 = 50 (at wrecker)
adaptor plate for carb = 50 (new)
rebuild and rejet carb = 200 (all done by mechanic)
extractors = new (275) second hand (50-100)
2 inch exhaust to match = new (220) secondhand (maybe 100)

youd be pretty happy with this i reckon it should wake up the motor quite a bit

another good thing would be a thermo fan
25 for thermo at wrecker and 70 for thermostat new to run it, but you would need a good condition radiator for this otherwise you may overheat, because you want to take the mechanical fan off

other than this stuff you would probably want to rebuild the motor with a better cam but this prob isnt in the budget

p.s. add your location to your profile

What about boring it out to like 1500cc??

I will cost every bit of your $500 and more for pistons rings rebore and gaskets!!!

A small torquey cam and some double valves springs and mild port job would probably be better value. Or find a GX head

they arnt easy to find, but yeah worth it if you can, search the classifieds till someone has one for sale, and check the tech section article so that when you go look at it you can be sure it really is GX
