if you report it stolen and you dont legally own it you could also possibly face charges for making a false report or misleading police.

Fill out a stat dec of with what happened and all the details you had. The cops should be able to find the guy even with the old mobile number, if its in his name. Even prepaid you have to show you licence for from memory.

If it's still in the name of the bloke you bought it of in the first place? hav him report it stolen..

well ive spoken to the police and the 'department of expiation notices' and they both say unless i can provide an address then thats my fault and the fines stay in my name. the original owner cant report it stolen because he already filled out a stat dec to transfer to me but he can cancel the rego. i'll be going to seek legal advice on monday

thats f***ed! have you got a copy of the receipt of when you sold the old car to old mate? the fact is you dont own the car no more so how can you get fined for a car you dont drive??? when i bought my ute un-registered then sold it, old bud i sold it to had no dramas re-registering it in his own name, i didn't have stat dec's or anything just a bit of paper from old mate i bought it off then give the guy i sold it to a bit of paper with both our signatures and the bit of paper with i got off the other guy i bought it off

so i found his address by going to the AEC and asking them for it ... i then drove past the place to see if it was right and there were like 3 VL sedans out the front 2 were the same colour as mine was. so i sent the stat decs today

well i hope we've all learnt a lesson from this...

aec gave you the addresses? wow thats a breach of privacy, he must have lived there for a while for them to have on record.

Take plates off car cash in rego its in your name ......then bash him old skool style..
