when someone says 2 thou for the gap for feeler guage does that mean that its 0.02?

0.02 probably refers to mm. In which case 2 thou would be 0.05mm on your feelers.

0.02 is two-hundredths. 0.002 is two-thousands
0.002 inches = 0.005 mm
