A series head bolts question...

Are all head bolts in an A series identical length? The ones i pulled out of the A15 I'm rebuilding, 9 are the same - 97MM & 1 is 111MM, is this normal & if so which hole is the long one out of? I didn't realize there was any difference until I'd pulled them already.

Also, I've reused headbolts before but would anyone replace them on a fresh rebuild?

Thx!

They are designed to be resusable.

They are all the same length (A12, A14, etc). But the bolt for the oil hole is different. Dont you have service manual? See here Cylinder Head::Special Bolt

I have the factory service manual for the 1200, not the A15. If the oil hole bolt is different is it length? Cuz mines about 13MM longer then the others & it came out of the head.

cool! Is that whats special then about it, the length? It doesn't have a hole thru it or anything for an oil passage. It necks down & has a narrower shaft like all the others though. I assume this is for oil bypass.

The oil goes up the bolt hole. So it needs the thinner bolt. Should show that in the A12 manual and A15 manual.

Yeah I was just about to say that about the part numbers. Recently I bought a set through Nissan and according to them (I'm still wondering if I should roll my eyes at this) the A14\A15 headbolts were super seeded by the A12 headbolts. The Australian part numbers I got on the invoice are:

NI-11057-H5000 Bolt Substant(the main ones), price AU$5.05 each
NI-11026-61000 Bolt (longer oil one), price AU$8.44 each

I'm going to add them to the Nissan part numbers thread we got here, just have to find it.

Here are the US part #'s:

Part # Description List Unit Price Price

M-11057-H5700 Head Bolt $2.70 $2.11 $2.11
M-11056-H2301 Head Bolt $3.33 $2.55 $2.55

These are off the Nissan.cc site
http://www.nissanparts.cc/cart/?pn=M- ... m_code=1198&z=Add+to+Cart

these guys are pretty helpful, ask for Russell. According to the bolt description if stamped w/a "13" on the headbolt its a GX bolt, all of my bolts are stamped that way so I'll assume they're the higher strength versions.

thanks for all the input.

Yes, all bolts from mid-1972 are "GX" bolts, even the poverty pack A12A engine.
