So I am just slow, the extra advance comes from another lil nut on the bottom of the dizzy. Heh heh at least mine is now super adjustable.

On a different note I have been offered a 300rwkw 18psi Black top SR20 for $3k. This will inc: forged pistons, ported (chambers cc'd and decompressed) and flowed head, 5 speed navara box (crap, I know), management system (not crap), its a haltec e8 or somethin, rad & intercooler, and heeps o spares like hydraulic lifters, big tomei cams, quad throttle bodies and so on. The engine is built for like 25-30 pound so really way too much for a 120Y but hey u only live once!!!!

After lookin at what this would cost to get together I bought the engine, it didn't take much thought either!!!

Now I just have to decide what to put it in.

My thoughts:

The 120Y: Having just done an engine swap I dont really want to put the ol girl out of action again for any length of time BUT.... 2.0L N/A is easy legal in 120Y + if I run it N/A I'll get time to sort out handling etc before I boost myself off the face of the earth lol...

A 1200 sedan/ute/coupe: Same 2.0l n/a legality for 120Y but $$$$ for a good shell. Which I'd be happy to spend if some one has an unfinished SR20 convo that never got an engine?!

A 1600: I like them, they r cool, again finding the right one will be the issue.

180SX: Avoid difficulties of conversion, plug n play fun and should be fairly cheap for a good shell w no motor.

So I must ponder the options, I'd like to do the 120Y as a sleeper, thats the direction at the moment but its really pretty up in the air.

Oh and I have a hilux that can donate brakes, 5spd, drive shaft n diff, if the g/box can be adapted for the sr that is. And 180B struts that will get upgraded, more questions on that later.

Have fun in Datsun land guys
Catch ya

So I've decided...

It's going to be a SR20Y

I plan to use running gear from a R31 Skyline (front struts, gearbox, tailshaft & diff)

Does anyone know if the R31 struts are a good swap into a 120Y? an what LCAs they bolt onto etc???

Then I will purchase a maddat fitting kit Minus gbox cross member which I will make myself.

But first I need to talk to an engineer, anyone know a good fella in Canberra???

I've paid off most of the engine so it wont be long before this all gets crackin!!!!

Here's a link to the engineers with signatory rights in the ACT. Engineers

People say to steer clear of John Wilson as he has a bad reputation with the Dickson motor registry and stuff he has passed gets called back in to be looked at.

Hey man nice Y.
I envy you soo much, I've got myself a 2 door sedan Y and i'm wanting to do the same thing. An sr20 Y would be soo much fun, and stick the quad throttles on her, will make her scream! Well that was my plan anyhow.
Good luck and keep us updated.
Cheers Mod.
PS - you on your P's yeah...? How then will you get around driving a modplated car? Just going to leave it to chance?

Thanks PIGDOG for the regulatorIt'll go in on the weekend.

Anyone know of a way to drop 4db off ur exhaust noise???

After that just plate sum rust and she's ready for daily drivin.

Haven't got my SR yet grrrr
I wanna SR20Y!!!!

Have sourced a complete R31 Skyline. So there's box/tailshaft/diff sorted heh heh jus gotta get quotes for cutting down of diff and struts (going with 180B units and a Maddat brake package)

Any advice on the 4db thing???
It pissed me off big time to get knocked back by that much but hey, they had to pick on something!!!

So last night I cut the bottom of the wheel well out with a plasma cutter.

First time I'd used one. Good stuff easy as to use but a bit unpredictable with rusted metal.

Hopefully tonight I will have new metal in there, then all I have to do is drop 4 bloody db and all will be sweet!!!
