my hanes manual says that if temp and fuel gauges are faulty at the same time it may be the "voltage stabilizer" also hers is another snippet from the manual to check if the temp gauge is working
"Disconnect the spade connector from the transmiter unit,switch on the ignition when the gauge should read COLD.Now ground the cable to to the engine block should indicate HOT.(i,mm guessing warm up the engine for 15 minutes or so)this test proves the gauge to be functioning and the fault must therefore lie in the cable or transmitter unit."

hope this helps

Good info. When you ground the temp sensor wire... disconnect at the engine sensor and ground it ... the gauge should read HOT regardless of the actual temperature. This test bypasses the temp sensor. Turn key to IGN to test.

The 'voltage stabilizer' is also called the 'instrument panel voltage regulator' and is inside the gauge cluster.

B210 was first manufactured in 1973. The 1974 model year (north america) started in October 1973.

The 1974 MY (model year) was unique:
* A13 engine, one year only, in north america
* Small H145 differential (same as B110)

1975-1978 went to the A14 and stronger diff exclusively for north america.

Just about everything else is the same though.
