Hi,
Im just wondering what mods it takes to put a CA18DET into a 1200 coupe. What changes you have to make, how long it takes, how much it costs. etc. Any help would be much appreciated.

this is exactly what i want to do to my 1200 coupe,so i rang up bmt motorsports, the bloke said his mate is selling his ca18det box, loom computer everything for 1500$ and thats a good ####n deal, and i said how much for a complete installation, which like includes brakes, intercooler, and all this other #### $12,000, #### the brakes and #### just tell me how much for the engine conversion itself, but he didnt.
The thing about a ca18det conversion into a 1200 coupe in that its still not legal, cos of the power to weight ratio, so 12,000$ and if you get done you lose your car and you have to pay a #### load of fines,
If i was rich i would do it in a heartbeat but im not rich, i know a fair amount about cars, but not enough to do a complicated conversion myself, i cant weld #### so the engine would be sitting on a ####n street sign pole, exaust? naw fire out the manifold for me!
C'MON POWERBALL!!!! 18 MILLION COMMIN MY WAY AH!!

Who the hell told you,Dattodave, that a CA18det/1200coupe conversion is illegal?!!
Or are you just ghessing?
I `m sure the NSW RTA has one of the most stringent Vehicle modification laws in Australia! In fact, their power to weight formula for "Light Vehicle Modification" says it`s all good!

I'm almost finished my converion of a CA18DET into a 1200 coupe. in NSW a CA18DET is legal the most you can have is 1825cc's with a turbo'd engine.
The conversion I am sure is legal throughout Aust.

What needs to be changed, well,
engine mounts
a hydrolic clutch installed
New tailshaft
New fuel lines 5/16" minimum, surge tank/swirl pot, pickup pump and main turbo pump, EFI fuel filter
Intercooler installed with piping (optional, but more reliable if you do have one)
modded throttle cable,
If using standard silvia dump pipe it needs to be modded to fit,
custom gearbox mount
Alot of engineers like to see hte Stanza strut upgrade utilised before they pass your conversion
I'll add more when I remember it

Radiator

Cheers
Damo

PS conversion cost is prolly $3500 if your lucky thats a rough figure, depends on if you get good deals on things

I believe that demojob is saying that it is legal!

So I guess I back you up on that one...almost gave it to you for questioning demojob, lucky I noticed you were questioning Dattodave....
