Topgear now you mention its a 2 pce item with removable top
I think its a great idea and might be in the market for one.
Would it be possible to have the top with an inwards step so
you wont need a separate seal with some kind of quick release
mechanism that doesnt require tools?.
On the very few occasions that I need to remove a rocker cover, it is because I need to perform some task on the mechanism inside, & that has ALWAYS required the use of tools, so using another tool to remove it hasn't actually proven to be a problem.
The design with a flat plate type removable top sounds trick, & probably looks pretty trick too.
Using an 'O' ring to seal it would overcome the difficulty of making a gasket & it would provide an oil tight seal.
['O' rings are often made from round section material that is cut to length & the ends glued in a fixture, so a specific spare part is not required]
This design appeals to me for its wank value alone, but it must be remembered that it involves the manufacture of two separate components, & this means a fair bit of additional machining which naturally translates directly into $$$$$$$.
The problem with this design might be that with the top removed, access to the valves for tappet setting may be restricted to a point where tappet setting is extremely difficult or impractical. It all depends on just how tight the clearances are inside the rocker chamber.
Good fortune with your design Topgear & I am keen to see how it turns out, however I already have an alloy one so I can not justify placing an order for another.
