I was wondering if any one knows where i can get a set of tubs for my ute. I am thinking about doing the rear end up a bit. I am sick of not having traction.

I am thinking about getting another car and not driving the ute everyday so that it won't really be a street car anymore. I have the white one. What colour is the 1000 ute? I think that it is my old one if it was orange. I spoke to Peter at widowmaker and i have already seen it. Just a bit overboard for what I want!!!

A much lower cost option for traction is to add a little balast. Try adding some snndbags or something else that you can weigh, & adjust, that wont hurt the back of your car & give it a try. If you can get the traction that you want, then think about a checkerplate floor. The plate thickness controlls the weight. Think about real soft compound tyres too. Same goal, diferent path to get there.

sorry to divert but this has sparked a question

why do a lot of cars mini tub, or whatever, i.e. go to shiet loads of effort to widen tyres inward, when its so easy to flare the gaurds get a wider diff and have the tyres sitting outside the car a couple of extra inches, to me this seems logical and a lot easier, the extra stance cant hurt either??????????

i mean you can fit 195 on the back of a stock 1200, so with an extra 2 inch of flares (which is quite small really) theoretically 225 will fit and with an lsd or locked diff surely this is gonna be enough

are people buying good tyres??

if u just want mini tubbs im sure they could fabricate up a shortened hilux diff conversion with still leaf sprund rear end and just wider wheel arches if u are serious about and go in and talk 2 them and explain what u want..

Mini tubs and tubbing developed as a result of the drag racing classes requiring that bodywork remained standard looking ..no flares. Aerodynamic efficiency is also a factor in the super quick pro stock classes. Tubbing has become popular as a "look" as well. I find it a little amusing seeing cars cars built to the "look" with massive rubber at the back and skinny 3" wide frontrunners squealing around the local cruise spots..I like the look too but I'd rather have a toy that was comfortable to drive and went round corners as well as it did down a strip..

Thank you for your input. I have spoken to Peter at widowmaker and he said that we will be able to work something out. I will have trouble with the adding weight idea as i have a wider track because of diff choice and i already scrub with a little weight in the back. Flares on a ute don't look good as i tried on my old 1000 ute. I might see if i can get the rear guards lipped and pumped out a bit and try the weight adding first. I like having the wheels inside and under the guards. The ute does have a light blue tinge to it. it is a piece of #### but goes hard!

At the very great risk of being buried in even more vitriole, tubbed cars look stoopid. It was originally done for a number of practical reasons on the drag strip.
Those reasons do not translate to the street where cars normally go round corners while being driven.
If the rear axle is narrowed enough, the wheel track is easily reduced beyond legal specs & even the averall measurement from the outside of the tyres can easily be less than stock. For street use, thats just plain dumb. No personall offense intended, but i wish people would

Dodgeman you seem to alot about cars and your questions and anzwers are always interesting to read. I am not trying to be rude but have you only ever seen fully tubbed cars in pictures with like 15z10inch wheels under them??? That is solely for drag racing as they don't turn corners. Mini tubbing is moving the spring over a couple of inches to fit wider wheels with a different offset.
