Travis I know you are thinking bike engine but just throwing it out there
how about 2 suzuki 3 cylinder sohc hemi 8v engines with a custom one piece
sump to hold the bottom secure, custom one piece inlet and exhaust manifolds
to hold the top secure and since you are up north and anything is almost
engineer-able a toyota 2ltr supercharger.
A bellhousing is available from sierras that can be modded for a w series
toyota gearbox and youl will have a 2liter hemi all alloy straight six.
74mm bore with 77mm stroke youll hit 1987cc.

straight 8 idea as reference

L8 buildup pages

How the blocks are honed or worked and pay the price of a 6 instead of 2 separate engiens
by bolting them up together for the machining.

It will be cheaper all up and the 3 cyl version is known to put out max hp over 200hp atw
and fitted to even porsches as a cheap replacement.

It will be totally balanced as a 6 unlike all 3 cyl designs.
You will have to offset one of the cranks at 120 degrees each? complete engine weighs 130lbs so times 2 minus extra alternator, starter, flywheel, clutch and other bits maybe 220lbs all up with lightened flywheel/ billet alloy clutch package thats round 105kg the same or lighter than an a15 complete with flywheel/clutch etc.

Being around a while but their 4 cyl version to fit normal gboxes is better.
The problems are prices!!!!.
An all alloy suzuki g13b with turbo and 300+hp will still work out to halve
the price of any hayabusa setup and less issues with boxes. Only problem is
extra 20kg which is made up through the clutch and gear strength savings from
normal bike boxes.

I agree with you there Dave. It is going to be a bit of an engineering feat to get a bike engine in, going and then make it reliable. But I'm yet to find another small capacity RWD engine that will fit. I have considered an EFI A12, but then again the costs are pretty high. Will sort out the rest of the body first, but still on the hunt for a well priced R1!

Have you thought about a Kawasaki Z 1300 engine, 6 cylinder , water cooled shaft drive.Early ones were carbys (79-83) but 84/85 were fuel injected. Good strong engines.

a 6 with boost is a great combo but do you think the 1300
beast would fit east west? itd be great if it did then a
big turbo can be sitting in the middle away from the radiator :)

I think a weber would be the best engine thought coming out this year.

UPDATE:
I went looking for a bit of inspiration today, now its getting warmer I want to get motivated and get some stuff done. Thought I'd play around with the bits I've got and the bits I've received in the last week:

Firstly, picked an engine! Got a G13B block (stripped down) and ECU, so will be chasing a few extra bits in the near future. Great thing is it once had a turbo on it, so the block has been tapped for the oil return.

Also got some weather shields. Not too sure if I like them yet, but I love the old school concept. I can narrow them up down the track if I change my mind

I bought some window felt and door rubbers as well, but they appear to be from a 1200 so if they don'e fit the 1000 I'll on sell them. Thought I'd put the flares on to see how she will look once done:

I've removed the tray tie-downs and am going to start stripping the paint. LOTS of filler in the doors so could be interesting.

This will hopefully get me motivated for the next few months!

g13b block from the gti are awesome. Just need the vitara g16b sohc 16v head its lighter than
the twin cam, bigger ports with more meat from stock and bigger inlet valves also.
I think the difference is about 6kg less and also width is reduced almost 10cm.
dizzie is at the back, no adapter needed and water lines dont need to be made up as
they run at the front like an A series. Will need to take the g13b bore to 76mm
so you can clear the bigger valves and also increase capacity to 1370cc.
200hp at the wheels is pretty common with stock head and boost.
