My state DMV (vehicle registration) is giving me a hard time on my 4dr 1200 sedan. Since there is no vin # on the dash in "the usual place" (left hand dash upper corner), I need to prove that it is a 1969 as the previous title stated.
Any help in ID'ing would be appreciated.
It may have come from another Country. It is left hand drive.

That would make it a B10 or 'datsun 1000' ther should be a small plaque on the firewall in the engine bay, and maybe a chassis number on top of the fron right inner quater?

The first 1200 rolled off the assembly line in January 1970. Here's the photo: 祝新ダットサンサニ-オフライン translation: Congratulations New Datsun Sunny Off the Line

Or it could also maybe be a P310 'bluebird'? with a J12 motor. could you post a pic of the engine bay? is it like this? (P310) or this? (b10)

Correction, "model year first sold" is listed as 1969. Previous out of State registration is 1970. VIN # is LB110-039***. Non-US lenses (side markers, tail lights, front turn signal lenses). Hydraulic clutch. Single reservoir brake master. Rectangle dash in KM's. "Sunny" badging. Pre mid 1972 if a true US car(no US DOT requirements). From Central America??
PM sent David, thank you.
Stamped Vin # on cowl as shown in pic. Removable # plate not on "hood ledge" as shown, but on top right cowl(typical US location. Engine #, TBD.

OK, so I only have dates per chassis number for Japan-market and American-market 1200s. The chassis number doesn't match those.
Yours is non-JDM as it is an LB110 (left hand drive). Could be from Okinawa, South America or even some places in Europe. Central America maybe Guatemala but 1200s were never sold in Mexico.
You can write (not call) Nissan and ask them to verify the date. This is what is often done when importing/exporting.
> Pre mid 1972 if a true US car(no US DOT requirements).
True US-model 1200s were made up into 1973. But starting in mid-72 they are subject to DOT bumper regulations. But you can get a DOT waiver no problem.
Sounds like California is going beyond federal law. Other states honor the title from a previous state. I guess yours has a Texas title? Looks from the picture like Texas plates, you should be able to get a 'lost title' from Texas without too much trouble.
Here's an idea. How about a partial trade for my 2-dr sedan? Coud we work out some kind of no-money trade? I have a clear WA title, it's a 7/72 car with current 1972 registration, should be smog-exempt in California, eh?
