Are any of you fellas running teflon buttons on full floating pins in your A series motors?
I plan to one build an A14 in an early front dizzy A12. I was gifted a set of A12 rods with the small ends opened up to 19mm. However, they have been opened up large enough to accomodate a floating pin, and have had a oiling hole with tapered "well" in the top of the small end. I may have access to another set of A12A rods from an LHD B310 two door sedan. But these rods look as though they've had a decent amount of money spent on them. The GC who gave me the rods tells me the engine from wence they came was a big dollar motor, so I'm assuming they have been balanced too.
I'm only at the stage of collecting parts for this build at the moment, but I still have high hopes of it being a low dollar build.
So anyway, in the interests of spending as little money as possible, I'd prefer to run teflon buttons on the G/pins, than fork out a wad of coin to have spiralocs groove machined into the pin bores on the pistons. I did a bit of google searching on the subject, and most of the hits were for VW and harley websites. I guess I really need to know what grade of teflon is typically used, (I'll be getting them turned up for free) and any other tricks etc that go with them.

yeah I used them in my A15. not sure what grade teflon, didn't even know there were different grades but if you ask a good plastic supplier like dotmar they might be able to help you. PTFE is pricy stuff but still cheaper than trying to machine the circlip grooves I spose.
Don't know about tricks but bear in mind PTFE has a much higher thermal expansion rate than metals, so give yourself a good amount of clearance so the gudgeon pin will still have endfloat at operating temp.

good tip Morgan. Thanks!
My old man has a catalog for dotmar and the like, but their most bestest grade of stuff costs MOONBEAMS.
