Do a restoration. USA's only B10 is winning awards everywhere it goes, and it's not even restored, jut original.

What I would do is:
keep the original engine
Obtain an A12 engine, as it bolts directly in as a replacement
Fit A14 crank, rods & pistons.
Now you have a fast little B10 that looks totally original.

New A10 engine will cost how much? Id get that for sure, 62hp is still more than todays
high tech 1 litre twin cam engines eg. 54hp Daihatsu Sirion.

the only issue with an a14 crank in the early block is the revvs are too high unless
you have an overdrive and 3.454 or 3.7 rear. Problem is then 1st gear is still useless.
Thats why Im going for the a10 with supercharger with an Auto or 71 series 5 speed.

Sirion has 54 net HP. The Datsun 1000 had 62 gross hp, which is less than 54 SAE Net HP.

New A10 for $400 CDN is a bargain. But in the end, the A12 is still the better engine.

But you could build the A10 for fuel economy and it should outdo the A12. For one thing it has smaller ports for more efficient low-RPM power, and another it has 3-bearing crank for less internal friction. With a 5-speed (I predict) you could get 70 mpg. One of our club members got an official 60+ mpg with a B210 in an economy run. Even Popular Mechanics magazine got over 60mpg with a Datsun 210 at 35 miles/hour.

There are so many variables but Id Id still prefer the A10 than a modern twin cam 1ltr.
I wonder what the A10 would produce with EFI? It is superior the a12 in efficiency with
small combustions and no need for overdrive. Perfectly suited to an 1000 vehicle.

You have to buy that A10, especially seeing as it's new in it's box. I know I would. And I'd wheel it right into the house and have it in here with me
