5spd installation & simple ideas...

I got my hands on a 5spd overdrive box. Just wondering how easy it is to install, seems like the reverse light may hit the tunnel. I need to make up a mount, does anyone have any
suggestions or photos of simple mounts to do this? I think a welder will come in handy.

Also l dropped the engine 1/4 of an inch when remaking the engine mounts, it really improved the handling characteristics. I would recommend anyone to do this. I think l can also lower it
another 1/2 inch as well. I just like the simplicity!

Finally got a high pressure electric fuel pump because of the mount positions, and l was surprised to find a substantial power increase at high revs. This is really worth doing, (but l will
have to get the carbies retuned).

If anyone has simple improvements, please post.
Cheers. Azz.

That's some very interesting information. Installing an A-14/15 in the 1200 usually results with the engine sitting up kinda high. I was thinking of putting the 210 crossmember in my 1200
to help lower the engine down some more. It makes perfect sense why the car would handle better, you're lowering the center of gravity. But, I never though it would make that much of a
difference in handling.

What are the flow statistics of your electric fuel pump? Gallons Per Hour? PSI? Lbs fuel/min? I was thinking about getting one of those for my car but wasn't convinced it would make any
kind of difference.

Changing the fuel filter actually made a big difference in my car, it was running like crap and it was only a year old fuel filter.

I'm wondering how much of a difference a header would make over a manifold and dual carbs over the stock one. Any idea?

Careful about lowering too far down.
You don't want to scrap your sump on nasty things lying on the road (like used pedestrians).

The standard mechanical fuel pump gives just enough fuel for the standard engine running at standard revs (as done by little old ladies
driving to church).
Any mods to the engine will easily exceded the capacity and you will run lean.
Luckily, it is self limiting and shouldn't blow any pistons.

A decent electric fuel pump will keep the carb supplied.
Too much pressure though and you could flood it because the pressure holds the needle valve open.
A performance pump rated for a 4 cylinder engine is best.
A pump designed for a STANDARD largish car (falcon, commodore, thunderbird, camaro, ...) with a big and lazy engine should also work
nice.
Don't stick in a pump from high performance mustang or corvette.

I have install a 5 speed in my 1200 2 door sedan.
What I did was this. When the engine was out, I got into the engine compartment and with a electric saw, cut the top half of the tranny mounts (the domes that stick out in the trans
tunnel. Leaving only the bottom half on with the bolt holes and threads. This will clear the backup light hookups. Then using the cross member from the 5 speed, I trimmed it on both
sides and fabbed some angle iron pieces. Drilled holes in the angle iron, bolted them to the care, lifted up the tranny until the trimmed cross member fit snug in the agle iron and
welded it.
Maybe a picture would be better. I'll get one on the web page soon.

Oh, by the way, your speedometer might be off with the 5spd. The 5spds from B210's here in the US have an extra tooth
on the output shaft.
The stock trans has a speedo gear ratio of 17/5. The five speeds are 17(?)/6.
Actually, who cares!?! Overdrive has priority over reverse lights and acurate speedo's.

Just going through old messages and came across one that says azza_bijan lowered the engine mounts in his car to lower
the centre of gravity.
How?and how much?
