I had the cable made up at a brake shop,you could actually get away with it being shorter than it is, then it wouldn't sit out so far under the fuel tank.
My inital idea was to make up adaptors for the caliper/bearings like the little design you have shown but came to the same conclusion as levey, good idea for race set up but too much work.

Well it looks like its time to pull the 5spd out...bigtime oil leak :(
Its not clear in the pics but it seems to be coming from near the gearstick selector shaft? (trying to find my manual so I can used the correct name)

I am using Redline shockproof and yeah its blue.
I think its just an O ring that has perished but the box will need to be pulled apart I think, good excuse to replace the bearings just incase.
