I'm using the one that came with the 4 speed, but I compared them and I thought they were the same.

Hmmmm, somethings not correct here. I,ve had this problem befor....I bent the 5 speed fork and got the clutch to work after that....in hindsight if I had fitted a 4 speed fork it prob would have worked fine.

So to refresh me here, your clutch worked fine with the 4 speed and now its not with 5 speed?? and you have fitted the a12 and 4 speed stuff to the 5 speed, ie a12 flywheel, clutch, carrier, thrust berring and fork...but now it wont work......????

I have a 60A 5 Speed with it's own fork and carrier.

It's fitted to my A12 which has a lightened flywheel and brass button clutch. No dramas whatsoever, I did have an issue at one point (similar to yours) but I just changed the adjustment.

Did you use the shorter or longer carrier? It's sounds like the thrust bearing isn't even touching the pressure plate fingers so something is too short or the fork needs some alteration. But honestly I thought the adjustment would solve the issue.

Here's my setup:

- Engine A12, with a12 flywheel, engine plate from stock motor.
- Clutch disk, clutch plate, thrust bearing new from a Valeo kit for Aseries. New Nissan OEM pilot bearing
- Thrust bearing carrier from stock 120y A12 4 speed (this is the longer carrier in my photo).
- Fork from stock 120y A12 4 speed.
- f5w60a standard shift 60 series 5 speed gearbox.

Essentially all I have changed from my working (stock) setup, is the gearbox and clutch disk, clutch plate and bearings.

It's real hard to tell without seeing a comparison pic (or knowing what the differences are), I used the fork and carrier that came with the 5 speed box. You're going to have to pull it apart anyway so I reckon you put the original stuff in and try that out. Must be something up with the fork shape/design.

If you pull the clutch fork manually can you get the clutch to cooperate?

I cannot move the fork by hand, yet I couldn't with the old setup either. The pedal seems to actuate the fork as I would expect.

Was your 60a carrier extra short, like the one on the left of the photo?

To tell you the truth mate, I didn't muck with it or even consider it as a possible issue. I just attached my gearbox and it all worked okay.

When it's becomes difficult to getting an answer I do it the hard way and try other alternatives. Sorry I can't offer any alternative suggestions as I'm a rookie when it comes to gb's.

In this case it is almost certain that the thrust bearing isn't coming anyway near the fingers on the pressure plate. So I would suspect the fork and or carrier. The way I'm thinking of it is; a fork with a different bend/shape or length would influence exatcly how far the thrust bearing/carrier travels. So my next step would be to try the longer carrier and the fork that came with the 60A.

The strange thing is if the thrust bearing isn't coming close to the fingers on the pressure plate there is normally enough adjusment on the sleeve on the perch to gain some extra cable to ensure it (the thrust bearing) does engage. So it's really weird to hear that the adjustment cannot recuperate the 'extra'.

Agreed. I'm almost certain it must be the fork or the carrier. And I think the carrier is most likely, since I checked the forks and they seemed to be the same to me.

Trouble is I don't have a longer carrier.

It is weird that tight cable adjustment doesn't help - theres a fair bit more adjustment after getting it to spec. And the pedal heights and free play in the fork seem to be in line with specs.

It still seam very odd to me, I cant work out why it would work as you have decribed your set up has not changed (apart from a new clutch) from the 4 speed set up that was working fine...........so the new parts are the new clutch, do think it possible that this is doggie.....otherwise its adjustment in the cable. Grab the cable at the fire wall and pull it hard, you should be able to pull some out from the fire wall, what does this do to the pedle....it the pedals on the floor then its to slack and needs to be adjusted tighter. I think fitting the short carrier is going make it worse and therefor an even alacker pedal...
