All wiring in all 1200's is different, depends on what year, month, trim, body, lhd/rhd, and gearbox type. Nissan just doesnt make life easy for us.

I pulled the whole dash out of my 71 wagon to put in my 73 sedan. Still wondering if i swapped the wires around for the ignition switch properly :-S Apart from the igition, there was only one wire in one of the connectors in the firewall that was in the wrong spot. It's fairly easy to make a tool for removing the blade/spade type connector pins from the sockets. I can post up a photo of it if you like?

I forget what I used for the round cluster socket though. The coupe to sedan swap (is that putting a sedan strip cluster in a coupe or putting round cluster into a sedan?) should tell you what each pin on the round gauge cluster does. You should also be able to follow where each part of the printed circuits on the 2 clusters go, and just swap your wires to suit.

Have you got both clusters on you? If you can take a photo of the printed circuits on each of the clusters and send them to my email address I can figure it out for you if you like?

Ask Chris (oan###) he should have plenty of diagrams for you.

It is actually for rectangle-dash to round-dash. Whether sedan or ute, newer ute or later, this part of the wiring is the same.

Yes, wiring harness is different each year, but it is minor changes, not major changes such as the gauge cluster overall.

im just swapping the cluster's , see photo

So dd your saying the 12 pin plug wires will be in the sasme order ?? , just unplug mine & plug the new cluster in without swapping any wires over on the 12 pin plug ??

I know the overall harness is different its just the 12 pin plug im not sure about.

I'm saying that if you have wiring for rectangle-dash, and you fit round-dash, you need to modify the wiring. It's just one or two wires, exactly as dattodude has outlined.

It doesn't matter what 1200 had the rectangle cluster (ute, sedan, wagon) etc. Or which 1200 round cluster you use.

I'm also saying the gauge cluster wiring didn't change every year. Rectangle cluster wiring is the same for many years, and it differs from round cluster wiring.

I'll just say I'll be very surprised if it plugs straight in and everything works.

Use the strip dash wiring, chase the printed circuits on each cluster and re-arrange where necessary, and use the switchgear for the lights etc from the strip dash, because i think they differ as well between the round and strip dashes.

It won't work if you just plug it in. Coupe cluster doesn't work with rectangular cluster wiring harness, until you make the harness mods.

However, it looks as is at some point the Ute round-gauge cluster changed to the same wiring as the rectangle harness. Not sure if this is the 1979 ute change or the 1989 change. 1989 is wired like the rectangle gauge.
