I wanna replace my alternator in the ole 1000, with an internal reg unit so as to tidy up the engine bay a little.
I saw the pics with an ea alternator change, and some spoke about a camery unit. Just wondering what is a simple and viaable option would be. Is there a unit that I can swap straight in from a later model datto that has an internal reg?

My 78 120Y has an internal Reg so yes, they are available.... it also depends on what electrical accessories you want to include... big stereo, driving lights, etc

hmm about elecs, well I was running a pair of 100w spotties for extra light as the original lights have about 5 candlepower! I also plan to install a reasonable stereo, nbothing stomping, just reasonable (ie splits, 4" fields, sub, 2 amps). So I am guessing that about a 55amp will do the trick. I wont be running injection or stuff like that. the old girl wouldnt know what to do with them!haha. How many amps is the one on the 120y?

i have a 55 amp alternator from a ford XF falcon 6cyl and it only cost me $20 i'd say that would do the trick i think the 120y ones were 30 amp

cheers. Was it a straight swap in, or did you have to make brackets etc.. I am chasing the simplest option, with about 55amp output. If the 120y is only 30 amp, then mine is about the same, so not much good. I dont mind modding a bit, its just that My car is already stripped down, and I dont want to make unnessary work for myslef.

i was looking at the wiring today, looks very simple to convert to internal reg, but i cant find my damn manual with wiring diargam, i think some wires that plug into the regulator on standard would need to be connected together, need the wirring diagrams to figure out which ones
