my a12 is prety much dead because the centre berring was starved of oil. this is because of standard baffeling not being good enough and not having a lightened flywheel.
So to all who read this, if you want to race with an a series motor fix the sump and lighten the flywheel ( oh and fix the rocker gear as i mentioned it the rocker arm thred).
LEARN from my mistakes.
Its all good though because i have a fresh rebuilt a12 waiting for me for only $100.

I love racing Dattos.

mmm, dont take a 1200 near a racetrack without a winged, trapdoored sump on it!

Dont use a wide clearance motor with the standard oilpump either!

Hey Quinn, If your not in too much of a hurry, I can build you a sump that will end all your probs. As for the oil pump I could build a high volume one for you using L series internals, they work well....

love some tips on improving the fuel pump, as im pumping oil throught urbos, and wish to install an oil cooler (have the adaptor to do it), but was worried it wouldnt flow enough to go through a radiator aswell as the already added tubos

no I didnt run the engine low on oil. The heavier flywheel puts more pressure on the middle berring which is larger than the rest, this coupled with oil surge = certain death. Thanx for the offer stirlingmac but Im already half way through my new trick sump baffeling. As for the high presure oil pump, Ive heard that they can be to high pressured and starve parts of the engine. My pump runs at 70 - 80 psi when cold and sits at 45 - 50 while hot so i think its ok.

The trick with the A series oil pump is to, use the internals, rotor etc from an L series pump. The diameters are the same it is just thicker. To make up the difference in thickness get a 2nd A series pump and machine down the thickness of it's housing to make up the difference. You then sandwich the L bits in the 2 A-series housings and with longer bolts , hey presto you have a high volume oil pump. Getting the clearances right is not too hard for a good machinist. I have one lying around some where, I'll try and get a pic of it. I also have a brand spanking new factory race oil pump with oil cooler fittings, which I'll get a pic of that one to.

No sorry, the pump is'nt for sale, I am a cronic hoarder, it is going on my GX coupe, to connect to the factory oil cooler, that sits beside the factory alloy radiator and feeds oil from the factory alloy sump....do you get the picture..after years of searching my ultimate 1200 is nearing completion fitted with all the factory race bits that were available in the 70's....
