yeah what ever the cause is, its very annoying!! my car will be in etch primmer for awhile so i will just wait and see what happens. My car after it was blasted has been cleaned with wire wheel then two products made by a company called KBS coating

step one is

Aqua Klean -

AquaKlean is a concentrated, water-based, biodegradable formula that is an excellent alternative to flammable solvents & hazardous chemicals for preparing your paint job with a clean surface. This powerful cleaner will deeply penetrate and remove stubborn soil from most surfaces without leaving harmful residues or emitting noxious fumes.

Then Etched with

Rust Blast -

KBS RustBlast is a powerful rust remover and zinc phosphate pre-primer & metal etch. RustBlast effectively dissolves rust, corrosion, metal oxides, and tarnishing from most metal surfaces, while providing extended protection against flash-rusting thanks to KBS' unique Oxygen-Block technology.

Then followed by A etch primmer !!

so we will see if those steps took away the coating left by the soda..

Looks great. Prepping myself up to the my 120Y later this year. Just sorting shelter requirement etc at the moment as I dont have a garage. Never stripped and painted a car before, assisted with some Aircraft jobs though. Got a mate who has restored quite a few Chevy's etc who will be assisting though so should be good. As he keeps saying (and this thread is the proof), prep, prep and more prep!

So after thinking about what to do with the rear tray, I have decided that replacing it will be the best thing to do, So i have ordered a new floor from nissan, Set me back around $900... Not a bad price really when you think about the time and material cost that would go into making one yourself.. 6-8 weeks delivery time so hope to start getting a few other jobs done on the car while i wait..

Few pics !!!

if your planning on retaining the leaf springs then you can tub the rear further. She will be one interesting ute with all that power and what not.
