They came in Short-nose and Long-nose form (in addition to the Coupled types). The GTiR and most others (N14/N15,B13/B15) are long nose R145, while N30 and JU30 were Short-nose versions. Look under a P12 Primera.

Wonder how much they weigh? It's all sprung weight so that's a plus right there.

The Nissan alloy R145 is an IRS diff, and I dare say it looks nice, but not as beautiful as the black one here. Yes that's a beauty. It's in a 1973 MGB. Not sure if it's the stock salisbury axle as most MGB axles are rusty and ugly. But that black paint and curving strengthening ribs look wonderful

I've been researching the R145 again ... has it really been 10 years? Got some more information.

First, the R145 was used as the rear diff in AWD or 4WD Nissans. With four cylinders mostly but even with SR20DET. I reckon because there is also a front diff, that the rear diff doesn't need to be a big one, so the little R145 can handle it

ALLOY types have a variable coupler, so don't need a center diff.

CAST IRON types are more traditional, and are used with a center diff (AWD) or a transfer gear (4WD) like in the Nissan R'nessa

Alloy type with electrical coupler (Note the electrical cable). This kind can disconnect for maximum fuel economy, or can do a torque split differential action

Alloy Hydraulic coupling type (viscous type like an R160 LSD?)

CAST Long pinion type N14 Pulsar GTI-R

Now an interesting thing is that the cast iron R145 diffs use the R180 gasket, and not the smaller R160 gasket. So possibly these R145 cases are beefier than the size of the ring gear would imply

The idea is use the r&p of 2.5 for the H145/150 and keep those 4 speeds rather than search for 5sp options.
specially in times when gas is intentionally inflated in price in the WEF push for EVs for everyone.

The R145 is most famously used in the JDM T30 X-Trail but has been used in dozens of Nissan since, including the USA Muranos, Rogues and Altimas. Pretty much every Nissan AWD

I was wrong about the gasket and those cast iron units. Those are for the Nissan/Subaru R180

However it seems that the R145 might actually be an R180 in disguise? as the 3.7 gearset is reported by Nissan parts catalog to fit both R145 and long-pinion R180. Well actually it doesn't say which R it fits but the part numbers lines up with both

Wish I had a Nismo catalog. I gave mine away when I moved ...

Still one question about the alloy diff ... would it work in a 1200?

* the coupling would probably need a spool to enable full-time RWD use

* maybe. It's about the same length as a long-pinion R180, so it would need a shortened tailshaft

The 2.66 gear ratio used by X-Trial, Rogue, Primera, etc. is very low, and would make for excellent fuel economy with a high-torque motor like SR20DE (the Murano and Rogue come with SR20DE and R145). Or use the 3.4 from Prairie or Wingroad smooth-case version. For an A12 the 3.7 option? from a Presage would be a great all-rounder

If there is a chance it will fit one of the H series centres like the H145/150 or 165
then it would be a good thing for many on here that have asked me for a 3.5 diff you
got for me quite some time back. Ive had several peeps ask and I promised one member
but Ive yet to get back to Terra Australis currently in Yamato.

Ive always like the simple, light and sturdy 4 speed behind even an A15 but the revs
on the freeway have always been an issue even taking off from 2nd behind an A12 was
better than using 1st even with a 3.9 r&p.

are you thinking of using the 2.66 gearset in an H145? Tha's a no-go because the pinion gear shaft is twice as long

but what about using the R145 diff assembly and fitting an H145 or H165 gear into it? Also same problem. the pinion shaft is very different

the good news is that the 3.4 gearset R145 is available
https://autoparts.beforward.jp/search/?search=prairie+differential
M12 Liberty Prarie, N30 R'nessa, W11 Avenir, U13 Bluebird

How would the diff assembly fit into 1200, well it is IRS ... which has been done by several of our club members

wonder if cut welding 2 into 1 then heat treating the pinion
on the rear bearing surface area is possible to do this?
