Has anyone made a bonnet liner for there 1200 to reduce noise? I have completed my ute with dynamat and I am looking to reduce some of the noise which comes through the bonnet and also make the bonnet a bit less tinny! :)

I have looked at the hoodliner from Dynamat but not too sure about it. I do have a few sheets of dynamat leftover which I was going to use on the bonnet inbetween the frames.

any better ideas?

all you can.do is try. Get.the under bonnet one as I think the glue is different and more heat resistant.

But Datsun and noise? Lol its going to be noisey anyway

Might sound silly but what about a fibreglass bonnet? The standard bonnets are pretty flimsy so might fibreglass might muffle the sound a bit without adding too much weight.

Is dynamat heat-proof? If not, it might break down or even catch fire, as the factory bonnet lining gets very hot.

I had assumed the lining was to insulate the expoxy of the bonnet, you know how the panel always broke loose from the frame in the older 1200s.

Either way you go, be weary about what glue and liner you use, flammable wise.....

I was thinking some kind of factory type like new cars have... sort of like cardboard type with a thin material over the top.

The Rare Spares one looks exactly like what you're after but would be worth having a look first.

The problem with a car like a Datsun is there are many sources (ie holes/gaps) where the noise will come through into the cabin. Think about all those holes in the firewall and gearbox area, even wheel wells produce a large amount of noise. In modern day cars they spend huge amounts of money on putting as much acoustic treatment inside the vehicle as possible to minimise road noise getting in. Noise wasn't a high priority in the 1970s.

Whilst the bonnet lining may reduce some of the noise, I highly doubt it will have a significant impact in reducing the noise in the cabin. Sound behaves like water, if there is a gap, it'll get through. You'd need to start plugging every single hole.

But I may be wrong, I'd happily eat my words if it's successful :)

I have applied dynamat the entire inner firewall, floors, up the back behind the seats, strips across the roof, both doors and new seals all round... :) its already quiet but I am looking to reduce the actual noise on the outside a little bit and also remove some of the heat dissipated onto the bonnet..

and plus I believe it looks bettter to have a bonnet lining as it finishes the bonnet off more :)
