I just bought a motor today. The guy I got it from said it was a JDM Spec motor from Japan...What's that mean ??
I got it home and took off the valve cover and it has dual valve springs and the number 13 on the head bolts,I remember reading something about 13 on the bolts and I know dual valves mean something good ? And it came with the dual SU carbs.
GX Motor?
SSS motor?
Today I will take the manifold off to see what kind of ports it has.

Sounds like a GX motor. Did it come with the cast iron exhaust manifold? If true, you got a deal.

All A12 have the 13 bolts fro mid 1973

Dual springs are good for 6400 rpm redline instead of the usual 6000 redline.

GX motor has dome-top carbs.

If you've removed the rocker cover to look at the springs just look at the markings on the cylinder head. GX will have no numbers and instead two words 'Japan Nissan'. It will save you having to look at the ports etc.

Sounds like a score, upload a picture.

It say's Japan Nissan and it has big oval ports, dual valve springs, cast iron exhaust manifold, but flat top SU's.# 4 was seized and looks like if I want to run this motor I'm going to need 30 over pistons...witch I can't find!
All for $150

They all have a cast iron exhaust manifold. But is it a cast iron header-style manifold with a twin-outlet?

It's not a GX motor. It might be an A12T engine, which is similar but with flat-top carbs and no oiling boss. If it has mid-mount distributor it is not a GX.

Dont get "030 over" pistons -- get 2 mm overbore pistons, which are very common having been in all 1979-1982 Datsun 210 with A12A. Get the pistons and the rods since they are different. Only a few dollars at Pick-n-Pull.

If I knew it was going to be this difficult to get this 1200 running I would have went for the L18 !
