Guys,
Im new to the forum but not new to Datsun...my grandpap had a red datsun 120y station wagon and it was really simple...gear, steer, brake. I learnt how to drive in it. Now many years later I want to get a coupe version and have come across one for sale in a farm far away. Owner claims its been sitting for the last 2 years and the body looks preety good. What should I look out for before I purchase? I want to spray it Ferrari Red and put in some nice rims. Please advise. Posting pics shortly.

Look out for rust. Lift up the carpets and inspect.

the coupes have problems with water sealing around the top of the rear hatch. They can rust anywhere around there - under the hoodlining just in front of the hatch, under the base of the rear seat etc. Also tend to rust around the brackets for the fuel tank - normally on the left side of the car. Pretty easy to see underneath. As well as the usual Datsun spots; cowl - back corners of engine bay and under the dash, under the battery tray, under the master cyl, gaurds behind the wheels, floors, sills, spare tyre area...

Hey guys. I have just posted pics of my intended buy. As you can see the engine is in a preety awful state but i want to maintain this original engine. Please advise on the following:
1. IS IT A GOOD BUY
2. WHAT'S THE FIRST THING I SHOULD DO TO GET THE ENGINE RUNNING AGAIN
3. WHAT SEQUENCE OF REFURBISHMENT SHOULD I FOLLOW? ENGINE FIRST OR BODY WORK FIRST?

I will certainly appreciate your assistance. Thanks.

Looks like it needs no bodywork. Engine looks OK. Just fire it up and drive it. It would be a good buy for $1000 if it drives well.

I would fix the interior.
