Weather seals on doors - 1200 ute.

Hey guys,

I'm just gluing down the weather strips on the doors of my 1200 ute. I think I have done them wrong to be honest as the door won't close nicely, feels like the rubbers are sort of getting in the way. The rubber seals are from Phils Rotary on eBay (could be #OOPS# - I don't know)

I know it's hard to tell but here is how I have done it:

They look like they're on the right way around at least. It's normal for the rubber to fold to a different position at the hinge end of the door - looks like you're's aren't doing that and so that might be why the doors not closing properly.

New rubbers means you'll likely be slamming the doors for a while till they loosten up a bit. I have the same prob on my 1200 boot which (with several coats of paint on both boot and body now) has added about a mm to the rubber space.

Stick the rubbers with contact adhesive. Make sure you apply the adhesive to both rubber and door and let it get tacky quite a bit before pushing the rubber on. Once done - close the door and let the rubber settle. The rubber will then stick in it's natural position on the car, rather than using tape to hold it there.

Thanks buddy!

I actually have glued them on already using the method you described.

I don't think you can tell in the photos but I think I should have glued them on the door skin (so that the sikaflex faces INTO the car) but I have glued them on the thick part of the door frame (so the sikaflex actually faces towards the rear of the car).

Think I may have to do it again :( Unless you can confirm that I did actually glue them in the right spot?

I tried to draw it in the diagram.

Yeh looks like you have glued in the wrong spot. You'll have to clean the lot off and try again. The action of the door should be to compress the rubber into the glue when it closes.
