Common is carbs maybe cam. Xhaust too. Im being vauge as what do you wan. Torque or top end.
You may need consider brakes suspension gearbox and diff too.

Some fairly common modifications:

Electronic ignition.
Weber 32/36 carburettor.
A14/A15 engine swap.
Oval Port Head.
Extractors.
Camshaft regrind.

electric fan rather than pulley. lighten the flywheel a little bit, better clutch.

I drilled holes in my chassie rails to make the car lighter.
DONT DO THIS.......

Lighter means quicker accleration. Lightening holes are used by race cars.

To go harder, the most common modifaction is larger engine: A14/A14, L16/L18/L20B, or CA18DE/CA18DET.
