Yep youve got it, the sender is basicly just a hollow brass (or copper?) tube with a capped end and a couple wires inside with a nut sweated onto the outside. When i tried to remove it the nut came away from the tube and screwed out leaving the empty tube stuck in the head. Will load some pics soon,
cheers
joel

This is the part. It is a slide fit into the head. Sometimes the head gets slightly corroded and so it sticks.

You can get to the bottom of the sender through the thermostat hole. Use a drift to try & push the sender out the top. Another way is instead of an ezy-out,use a large tap into the sender for a few turns, this should break the bond between the brass sender & the aluminium head & it should pull out. If none of these work, try cutting down the inside of the sender with a sharp chisel & fold the sides in on itself & it should come out. I've never had the last fail (yet) so I haven't had to figure anything else yet. Just be careful with the thread when using the chisel.
