Hi all, I put a l16 in my datsun 1200 ute and I want to turbo it. Just seeing if someone is selling a kit or if anyone knows where I can get it done. Thanks

Leave internals stock the rest is easier custom, in the end will make more power and torque than a SRVE, no pollution gear and reliability beyond most engines if tuned well.

If you really want to stay L-series, start by going to an L20B - even if you do that at the same time as turboing it.

Personally I say your best option is either an NA L20B (accept it's not fast) or go to a CA/SR/whatever and do it properly.

The beauty of the L16 is it can be engineered in most states, has better rod stroke ratio than L20b so revs better, 15-20kg lighter and easier to make more power with boost than 400cc extra in NA.

I think that's just what people with L16s tell themselves. Whether you turbo it or not, you'd be a goose not to go the extra 400cc.

In fact even moreso it's important to look at the extra 400cc as I assume this is being done on a budget = standard motor = want to minimise boost pressure.

An L16 should (very loosely) need 10psi to do what an L20B can do at 5psi.

the l20b with turbo is not engineerable in most states most likely the reason this person is asking for the L16 especifically. Anyone would prefer the extra cc with boost but not allowed these days therefore the L16 is the only choice for some

In Queensland and NSW, a 2-liter turbo exceeds the regular engineering requirements for a Datsun 1200, although theoretically you could do ICV engineering by redesigning the chassis.

L20B: 97-110 HP
L16: 96 HP

L20B was fitted with relatively mild cam (for its size), so it doesn't rev up to potential. Fit an aftermarket camshaft and it will far exceed what an L16 can do.

D is correct in that the L16 will feel "revvy" and more exciting to drive. However the L20B will still beat it for acceleration.
