Thanks for the input guys.

Dean- that girdle/rack is a mighty good idea, it'd be great if it could incorporate the rocker shaft collars, perhaps that is the solution to your comments lildarkone? I might look into a design for that, but essentially, the more complicated the more expensive.

Nevertheless the girdle can be an option?

Mike this was drawn on good ol' AutoCAD. I was taught old school VIZ which Autodesk canned and consolidated with AutoCAD, so I just used that. Same procedure really.

As for timeserts, I was convinced by the bloke that reconditioned my head that they were only superior to helicoils if the depth of the thread void were fairly deep. He basically said that the holes were too shallow for timeserts.

Reuben, not sure about your scenario as Yella-Terra gear is fairly unique in that it'd probably only work with it's own components.

JB Roller Rockers would work an absolute treat with these though.

Looks like a great Idea Chris!!!, the only suggestion is that the base be 5mm and
that all the sharp edges are removed on the mid way section if possible?.
I see them as areas of possible fatigue with those deep cuts.

Another area not really looked at is hollowing out the camshaft.
There are some different techniques.

Yeah the finished design is a little different but I'll let it all out when they're ready to be manufactured.

Thanks for the recommendation on the base thickness, I think I'd be stupid to leave it at 3mm huh?

Not sure what to expect out of hollowing the camshaft? Wouldn't that just ruin the centrifugal weight dispersion making it more prone to deformation?

Hollow camshafts are used on the best engines in the world
commonly mass produced in things like the old famous suzuki g13b.
Ill get a quote tomorrow just as a sep thing.

Looking forward to your final designs.

Quite right you are too, & that's why the A series camshafts are already hollow.
The plug in the back of the shaft makes the drilling oiltight.

This is just one lobe that was forcibly removed from an A15 camshaft by a wayward rod & the drilling can clearly be seen.

As usual, click on the image for full size picture.

The drilling is an oil gallery. Enlarging it really just weakens the cast shaft & allows strong double valve springs to deflect it when under load, partly negating the lift & timing specs. I'm not aware of any engine builder that increases the diameter of this drilling in A series camshafts, either for weight reduction or any other reason.

Is this also for earlier camshafts?

Since ALL A series cams are interchangeable within all A series blocks they ALL have this oil gallery drilling along their length.

OK, yes I know that an A10 or 1200 cam in a 1974 or later block will be missing the distributor drive gear but the later cam will work in the earlier block, just remove the fuel pump & blank off the hole.

Well there you go, more surprises!

Back to the pedestals; request for manufacture (quotations) have been submitted to numerous professionals and we should see a set over the next couple of weeks.

Hopefully the prototype will bring some more interest to the table.

I eventually got around to getting these priced and they ended up costing out at $250 per pedestal!!

With the quoted amount I could have purchased a machine to do the job!
