Hey everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone could let me know if the 60L Dogleg 5 speed is the same length as the standard 1200 4 speed transmission and if the shifter is in the same spot?

Also what modifications are involved in fitting a 60L Dogleg 5 speed?

Cheers

All same
Just need to make a new crossmember
And the reverse switch hits so i drilled a hole in the tunnel and used a core plug

Yes

* 60L Dogleg 5 speed for L-series won't convert
[Edit:] i meant 63L for L-series. 63L for A-Series needs no conversion.

Dogleg L series Box is not a type 60 but a type 63.

Remember Datsun gearboxes are rated and described as type 56 means 56mm between the centreline of the gearbox shafts so a type 60 means 60 mm between shaft centreline and obviously a type 63 is 63mm and on we go to type 71 ect.

When it comes to type A or type B gearboxes the earlier type A boxes use Porsche type servo syncro's and the Type B use Borg Warner style Brass cone syncro cones.

Not a hard and fast rule though for second hand gearboxes and this is why.
I have converted a number of gearboxes over the years from Servo type Syncros to warner type Syncros by pressing the matching cone sections off the gears and swapping them over and I know I am not the only person to have done that type of Modification especially to Rally Boxes for more robust effective syncro operation.

Nice upgrade, so a cross member and tail shaft is all that's required? Keep us posted on how the conversions goes and what you do with the reverse switch issue.

For any 5-speed, the crossmember needs changing.
* FS5W63L dogleg
* FS5C56A dogleg
* FS5W60L dogleg
* FS5W60A

C vs W means Porsche type "Competition" synchros vs Borg-Warner style synchros.

Yes, same length. Even better, the stock 1200 tailshaft fits.

Yes.

Nothing needs to be modified. A simple flat-plate crossmember can be fabricated or a fancy one can be purchased. Use the stock 60L rubber mount. The reverse lamp switch is trickier. One can either cut a hole in the tunnel, or remove & plug the stock switch and bolt a new switch to the shifter.
