Couple of Questions Regarding the R30 Stumpy Box,

I have found one Local to me, guy wrecking 2x 720 4x4 utes claims to have a stumpy gear box,
He is chasing $250 for the box.

I have Read the Wiki and maybe i just missed it, but is it likely this stumpy gearbox will suit me, obviously im wanting it for a ca conversion, I understand bell housings need to be swapped, but is there anything i should be looking for to identify the box? or are all stumpy boxes compatible?

This is an Australian 720 ute that its coming from btw.

720 had a stumpy version too. Look for the speedo drive, it's missing on some of them so your speedo won't work.

You will also need a CA20 5-speed, so you can swap the front case.

be weary the stumpy on an R30 is very different to the 720 navarra or d21

The R30 has shorter lever position so is more suitable to most datsuns
while the 720 is a 71C box with different shifter and length.

The navs get quite a pounding and usually have overheated main shafts that
weaken over time also with lack of oil changes.

Either way you are most likely up for a rebuild with any of the boxes mentioned
as they are getting long in the tooth

720 used 71B boxes. The newer D21 used 71C.

RB20 gearbox is a 71-series also. Is it a 26.3" stumpy? Or that weird version that's longer but with the shifter forward?
