The hub fits through the center hole in the wheel. The diameter is called hub registration?

Datsun 1200 is 71 mm.

Measure this:

The coupes were all built in Japan, so originally they came with the Japan calipers (small 1200-style). Only (some) Aussie sedans were locally built and so used locally-sourced brakes.

I suspect both used the same rotor and strut, and that only the caliper differed ... ?

good stuff, thanks for the reply ddgonzal!
my hub registration is approximately 51mm (steel rule, in the dark, by eye )
so significantly smaller than a 1200 one.

should i be looking for different calipers as a result??

51 mm sounds like a non-Datsun hub. Who knows what it is.
