I just received my a15 block back from my engineer (full bottom end rebuild and thanks to Bige for the parts)and noticed the conrod in cylinder 3 is fitted back to front. I called the engineer who says it is how the original was, and "some manufacturers did it from time to time". However I am worried about it. It doesn't seem to be the sort of thing Datsun would do! Should I be worried??? I am not sure if the oil journals will match etc etc with it the wrong way. I'm now thinking of pulling it out myself and reversing it (now searching forum as to how to get the gudgeon pin out with a hammer and a nail.......)

A-series rods are symmetrical, so I don't think it matters. It's not really a case of some manufacturers will install them in random directions (like your builder has one), but rather a case of some rods are symmetrical so it really doesn't matter.
