RX7 calipers may fit under a 13" wheel when used with the 120Y disc rotor, but doesn't RX7 rotor+caliper requires a 15" wheel? I seem to recall the Maddat kit needed 15s.

The nice thing is that some RX7 calipers are light alloy.

RX7 FC is 1985-1991
* S4 1985-1988
* S5 1989-1991

S4 calipers come in two kinds:
* 4-piston (for 5-lug rotors)
* single piston floating (for 4-lug rotors)

To fit the S4 four pot to Datsun struts is simple:

Open in new window

The spacing for 120Y struts is slightly different from the 810 struts in this photo, but both are much narrower than the RX7 caliper bolt spacing. So a similar bracket can be fabricated. The next questions are 1) how far to space the caliper up and 2) how far to space it out/in (how thick is the adapter). The answer depends on which rotor you use.

This is my setup and they fit in 15's they may fit in some 14's but I don't think they will fit in 13's

I've got the 4pot calipers.I thought r33 alloy 4 pots were light until i picked up the rx7 calipers

Supafatto, That picture says alot...

Very true.Im thinking under 270mm disk?

I think it might have to do with the design of the bracket and maybe rim choice.Ive read of people fitting r32 calipers under 13s?
I wouldn't mind getting the calipers abit shaved off to fit..

When i compare them side to side with nismo mk63 calipers they are very similar in size.So why the nismo calipers can fit under 13s and the rx7 ones can't seem odd.

The RX7 caliper will fit under 13" wheel. The RX7 276 mm disc rotor won't fit with 13" wheel.

For example, fit the 4-pot caliper to the 212 mm 120Y rotor. It will require a different kind of mounting to get the caliper fitted that close to the spindle, perhaps a ring mount. Brake pad spacers can be used with thinner rotors.

You can fit the RX7 caliper with 252 mm rotor under some 13" wheels (but not all 13" wheels). 252 rotor comes with 280ZX. Or with 250 mm rotor from S13. You can notch the caliper to get it that close to the spindle, 4-pot caliper can be ground a long way to get it close.

Nissan 4-pot calipers are more compact.

The RX7 4-pot calipers have a huge mount, so the pistons are high above the mounting ears.

Nismo MK63 calipers mount low

Nissan R32 are similar but mount a litter higher (intended for larger 280 mm discs)
Open in new window

These come in two versions )1 for 26 mm thick R32 rotor, and 2) for 30 mm thick R32 rotor. Brake pad spacers can be used with thinner rotors.

Hilux 4-pots are even more compact, so will fit with small rotors.

Here's another look at WHY the RX-7 caliper need bigger wheels:

CALIPER DISC HEIGHT (Dimension 'E')
* Hilux 63 mm
* RX7-S4 80 mm

yes i see..
Some comparison shots between nismo mk63s and rx7 series 4/5 calipers.
But will still try to fit the rx7 calipers under 13s if possible.
