pics of the beast, would be nice if rear bell is removable
for alloy bellhoused nissan boxes. I wonder how much boost
it could take as the manifold is ready for a snail.

That's neat. It was used in International tractors. The six-cylinder SD33 was used in International Scouts (USA's version of the Land Rover).

But still, the SD wasn't as efficient or as powerful as the TD. I wonder how it weighs compared to Navara TD23.

Some kind of forklift had these engines and just
to look at they seem tiny even to a J series
but maybe similar in weight minus a cylinder?.
SD16 stroke is 99.8mm and all use 83mm bores yet
full wet sleeve design and here in turbo!!!!
for the sd15et which is interesting and unusual.
https://secure.smsdiesel.ie/en/industr ... es-engines-83mm-bore-size

You would need a 3.45 ratio and even lover to
use these little gems but would be a unique setup.
https://secure.smsdiesel.ie/en/industr ... es-engines-83mm-bore-size

crankshaft is fully counterweight as well and maybe better
to use the sd15t engine for a bit more rpm & high boost

here is some kind of catalogue
http://www.cnrefone.com/catalog_list.asp?engine=SD15T(1.5)

video!!! of NA sd15

Too bad they are heavy for a 68 hp engine. I'd rather have the lightweight Gemini E diesel 1.5 with 72HP

The E series is heavy, removing the bell for the tractor transmission would make the SD16 a much lighter 3 cyl

EDIT: just got word from a previous owner of the IH 284 that turboed the SD16 with sd15 top end and the rear bellhousing is removable to suit other tractor, forklift transmissions and generator setups.

Also using the GT15 on a dyno showed just below 100hp and 160 ft lbs of the fly so it has potential!

It has glow plugs to retrofit direct diesel injectors and common rail setup
from perhaps modern 3 cyl diesel which are plenty. That would allow close to 160hp depending on boost, cams and ecu. However 100hp is possible with modded mech pump and right tuning with small turbo and intercooler as tractor dragster often employ on old rolling coal high hp modded tractors.

pls let me know if anyone sees one for sale!!!!!

interesting thread on SD pistons some used 5 rings! I wonder with boost would 5 carefully selected strong rings to be a good alternative?
