Are you asking about the combustion temperature inside the cylinder? Or EGT (exhaust gas temperature)?
* If it's completely stock, EGT should be under 1600F, under 1100F when cruising (not accelerating), and under 500F at idle
* If the compression, cams, or boost has been changed, the temps will be different

EGTs from 1400-1600F is normal at wide-open-throttle and high load in a properly tuned engine. The exhaust will start glowing red

As you lean out the engine, the temps will drop. Hottest temps are around the stoich ratio. So they will also drop as you richen the engine

I've read that rich mixtures can also cause high temperatures due to them still burning later in the piston cycle. I guess there are a number of theories out there and I have not explored them with any depth.
Anyway, I've just added a EGT sensor to my CA18 but the log I have is on part throttle and low boost (~12psi) running on the track prior to engine tune. Engine is not stock and I wasn't leaning on it but temps were between 600 and 830Deg C on the track.
AFR was pretty rich at 0.8-0.83 under acceleration and EGT sat in the low 800Deg C.
If you want more details let me know.

Thanks for the replies guys,my engine is going to be totally built.84mm pistons(40 thou),spool stroker crank and rods,1mm oversize valves, double valve springs,270 cams, the list goes on.I've spent a small fortune on it and its still going to cost me a #OOPS# load more to actually get it built.

sounds like a solid build. Cams will effect EGT for sure.
Major difference is mine is the compression ratio (not stock 8.5:1) and exhaust cam on inlet side swap.
