L16 ex valves

I'm doing some head work to my H89 A15 head and I've read here that putting the L16 ex valves is a good upgrade. Now which size should I go the 33mm or 35mm. Rocker assembly will be standard. I'll have double valve springs, twin side draught webers. Cam. Ported and match ported head.

Also with putting in the L16 valves which guides/stems do I use. The A15 or L16's?

Thanks

Provided the stems are the same size e.g 8mm then the A15 guides should be ok. I have L16 exhaust valves in the head I use.
New collet grooves will need to the cut into the shortened L16 Valve stem length though. Essential to check that the top spring retainer doesn't hit the top of the guide at maximum valve lift [your Cam specs will govern this outcome] as well as checking that the valve springs don't bind either while your at it. The collet groove placement needs to be considered along with the valve spring rate to achieve an appropriate seated valve pressure. If you replicate the std valve collet groove height, you should be all good.

Ok great. So what's a good size valve then. 33 or 35mm?

The stems for an a series h89 is OD 12.2 and ID 7.8. The L16 is OD 12 and ID 8. Will that be an issue?

33 mm is a good inlet valve size for an A14 engine. For A12 engine use 31 mm

The valve guides can be reamed out for 8mm valves, but the best thing to do is get 7 mm valves

Well in that case, 33 mm exhaust valve is a good size for A15 engine

The Exhaust valve head size will be in association with what Inlet valve size you select. The guide size may have to be reamed out to suit the L16 valves. Your engine machinist will be able to advise you on that one. Personally I went with K-Line inserts which are a bronze type guide insert which have great thermal properties for transferring heat out of the exhaust valve.

I was planning on leaving the standard inlet valves. 37mm I think.

Or should I being going 38/33? Do you think the bore would need to be notched for valve clearance with these sized valves?
