Hey DD the hole in the top is machined in to allow oil to move between front and rear pinion bearings.
The alloy diffs were so light but not as strong as the metal ones when you start to put a lot HP through them like Rob souter and i did with his sports sedan(amean factory L1780cc mid mounted. Aahh good memories.Greg.

LOL they were trying to sell that pumpking for 100000 jp yen or 900-1000usd
you an get these still cheaply enough from many datsuns, best on is H150
rather than the H145, just a little stronger.
All datsun 1000s had alloy pumpkins/carrier. Anyone know which models had
cast iron H145 or H150 diffs? I didnt know they existed. 120Y?

Datsun 1200 has cast iron diff carriers, as did all B210 and B310. I'm surprised 1000s used aluminum as it is more expensive

all the vb10s ive had and seen are alloy as are all datsun 1000s
the only steel carrier I heard was on the late 120y but that could
be mistaken by Borg warner diffs by someone else.
Datsun 1200s coupes and sedans H145 all that Ive seen have also alloy carriers.
Ive seen cast iron carriers on ute which are H165 and H150 cast iron as well.
Also found early bluebird 1967/8 H165 carriers in alloy.
