Need aesthetic assistance w/ my new B210

Hello Datsun 210/120 enthusiasts,

I just recently purchased a very clean and almost fully original 77 B210 w/ fairly low miles. I learned to drive overseas on a 75 Y120 and so I am beyond excited to have one of these again.

I have a few questions, as I like to change this car to look more like my old 75 and also to add a few new period body modifications.

The bumpers on my 75 were the slim ROW ones. I see some for sale on eBay. Are these easily changeable? I will have a body shop perform this service, but wanted to check here 1st.

I also would like to add a front lip spoiler and a rear ducktail spoiler. Any recommendations? Are there ones that will fit better on a 77 B210? Do the ones for the 510 fit the B210?

My 75 had a different style front grill w/ two side round orange lights next to the main round head lights. My 77 now has two rectangular orange lights in the grill vs the round ones. Can I switch my grill for a 75? Are they interchangeable?

Any recommendation as where to buy all the above items would be great as well.

Thank you,

Hi 77Sunny, welcome to the club

I'm not familiar with the term 'ROW'. The two kinds of B210 Bumpers i know about are these

Open in new window

worldwide bumpers

Open in new window

North America safety bumpers

can you post a photo of your B210? How to post a photo

the lights in the grille sounds like a North American B210. I didn't think the 120Y versions had orange grille lights?

Hello ddgonzal- Thank you.

ROW is the Rest of World- or really just none US bumpers. I am attaching a picture of my car, but I definitely want the bumpers in the 1st picture. I was able to find a non US bumper actually just today for the the back of the car on Ebay, but am still looking for the font bumper. Are these easy to install? Also really would like to attach a front spoiler and a ducktail rare spoiler, and the two round light grill on her too.

THX

Oh got it, rest of world -- because only Canada & USA had the exceptional ugly bumpers

nice GX Coupe!

A few club members have changed their B210 to the worldwide bumpers, but only one let us know how it was done. He purchased the bumpers but didn't get the bumper brackets. So he fabricated brackets for it

On the Coupe there is a big gap at the back

so i been looking through the JDM parts catalog. Make sure you get a Coupe rear bumper and not a sedan rear bumper

Open in new window

1 85010-H5500 BUMPER-rear Coupe
2 85204-H5500 STAY-bumper rear RH Coupe
3 85205-H5000 STAY-bumper rear LH Coupe

fixing stay to bumper QUANTITY 4 EACH
4 62663-27700 BOLT-special M6 4Coupe
5 08915-53610 WASHER-plain 4 Coupe
6 08915-13610 WASHER-lock 4 Coupe
7 08911-10610 NUT 4 Coupe

fixing stay to body [not shown in early catalog]
01221-00031 NUT
62685-73000 RUBBER-WASHER

if you don't get the brackets with the bumper, no worries. It won't fit the North America model anyways, as there are big holes where the 120Y bumper is supposed to bolt on

Here are some pics of the sedan brackets. Coupe rear bumper is shaped a bit different and so are the brackets, but general idea is shown in these pics

120Y Rear Bumper Differences

* Coupe: reflectors in bumper
wide plate cutout
notches at bumper ends

* Sedan: plain bar
narrow plate cutout (JDM)
wide plate cutout (worldwide)

* Van
3-piece bar (all metal)
rubber tips on bumper ends

License plate lamp: 120Y has a license plate lamp under the rear bumper for the below-bumper-mounted license plate. The light bolts to the body and is very similar (maybe even the same) to the 1200 Coupe license lamp. But since the North America B210 has the plate above the bumper, it is not needed

Reflectors. Since the North America B210 already has reflectors in the taillights, they aren't needed

So how would the B210 120Y rear bumper fit onto the B210 North America?

The 120Y brackets bolt to the body, however there is no bolt holes. NA uses shock absorbers to mount the bumper so there is a large hole in the back. Perhaps a bracket can be fabricated that bolts to the body, that has holes for the 120Y bracket bolts

The downside of doing this is that the 120Y bumpers do jack for protecting the body or the passengers. They do look better, and are more stylish ...

All modern cars have bumpers like your 1977 --they just hide them now under sleek bumper covers. They will prevent any damage to the car for low-speed bumps at up to 5mph. The 120Y bumpers only work with light taps. Over 2mph and the body gets smacked by the bumper

Still, id rather have the nice 120Y bumpers

i would guess that they just bolt right in place of each other. Does anyone know?

I've swapped a few grilles around from different years both early, late, JDM, coupe / sedan and while I haven't swapped that particular early coupe grille I'd be quite surprised if it didn't screw in the same way.

For chin spoilers the Mk1 Golf is popular and works ok with 1200s and B210s. You can search what people have done on this forum. Don't know about B510 spoilers. Yahoo japan auctions is a good place to find interesting 1200 spoilers. They all seem to require a bit of fiddling to fit.

I don't know about rear spoilers although they came out on some of the South African cars (140z/160z) and I understand that they are rubber. Very hard to find I would say but I know someone who did get one.
