I-5 is the main Interstate freeway in California, running north/south from Mexico to the Canada border through LA, Portland Oregon and Seattle

Smash Up On Interstate 5 - 1976 - FULL MOVIE - Starring Robert Conrad & Buddy Ebsen

I saw this among suggestions on youtube and thought "I should watch it to see if there are any vintage Datsuns". Sure enough, in the very first scene of the movie, there is this orange B110R 2-door sedan:

Lots of cars (as expected). I've already spotted two 240Z, a 510 wagon, a Datsun 411 and an RX Mazda in just the first few minutes. California was the epicenter of Datsun. Of course it is the most populated state since 1962, but even more than that: there is little rust, sunshine brings a car culture, and was headquarters of Nissan USA. Mr. K said SoCal was "considered to be the birthplace of automobile culture."

In the frame above with the orange 1200, there is a white 1972 El Camino with a 68-72 Buick Skylark just behind the 1200 and a 1974 Chevrolet Caprice behind that. I think the car in front of the 1200 is a 1968 Mustang

Nice new white KB210 at 27:52, followed by a black-and-white CHiPs patrol cruiser. Peak CHiPs would arrive in 1977 with the TV show

Funny thing is in 1976-1977 I didn't have an appreciation for Datsun, although my father had a 521, and I even three family friends had B210s (photos are around here somewhere ...)

This film is so dramatic ... melo-dramatic

It's so clear you can almost see the Datsun script badge on the rear fender of the sunflower gold Datsun 1200 Coupe on the streets of Miami while Jerry Reed shouts "Police"
