Ok so i got my carb sorted...gasket leak

But now i seem to be faced with a new problem. my ute is starts pinging like crazy as soon as i give a bit of foot. I've checked the timing, and ive fiddled with the fuel air mixture and no change at all. So im thinking maybe its the advance and retard thingy thats not working properly. How can i find out if the adv/rtrd is working properly?

any other suggestions are welcome
thanks

Give better fuel a try. Higher octane will stop pinging if the timing is not over advanced. Also you may have got a bad batch of fuel.

TIMING TIMING TIMING, Iv'e had the same problem with heaps of cars Iv'e had, It probably started doing it because the timing was set with the carbie playing up and now that that's fixed the timing has to be reset to match.

I'm using 97 leaded in the ute and i've tried different brands fuels but no difference.
On the timing thing. i don't have timing light so its very hard for me to set it proparly. what i can do is ajust it a little take it for a drive ajust, drive ... .. . . . .
So jou guys don't think it can be the advance/retard thingy thats bust?

It's not rocket science, just retard the distributor until it stops pinging. Rotate the distributor body anti-clockwise. See the Ignition Timing & Distributor Installation
article.

If the advance is broken, it won't cause pinging.
