Well guys... its possible, and its extremely fun! engine bay is just getting painted and im dropping in a sr20de into my 1200 ute.

Cutting, grinding, contemplating, its all part of any process.

Thats the link to my pics and story so far. It originally had an A12 engine with a manual transmission...

The Trans Tunnel was a mission.... but after this weekend... i would like to say MISSION ACOMPLISHED!!!

Also... theres a guy who bought a ca18det off me a little while ago, just wondering if its in the datto yet?

Byes..

Finally ... someone who can do an engine swap and not take months! Keep us posted, sounds like you are having fun with this project. Or should I say "mission" instead of project?

Story: http://www.datsun.co.nz/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=91

My favorite out of the photos linked:

So small it's cute?

If your think its almost over you are in for a suprise you have only just begin and what ur doin at the moment is the EASY part of the conversion.
And DD lets see how much is done in a couple of months when she gets to the tricky parts.
Im sick of people saying hurry up how long does it take to do a engine conversion!! there is so much envolved in a EFI conversion that people would not think about.
Sorry to sound like a smartarse DATGRL but when your finished you will no what i mean

I know that the wiring is going to be one of the hardest parts... and what did you guys use in the way of a clutch master cylinder? presuming that you have made it hydrolic.

And sway bars... i have taken mine out.. what do i use as a replacement??? its kind of dodgy without one.

The engine + box should be all mounted by this weekend... the only thing i wont have done will be the hoses, wiring etc etc which is definatly going to be time consuming!!!

hehe, I figured that would generate some conversation.

I've got half my EFI parts, and I know once I get the other parts (all the parts in hand) it will still take me weeks to get it running.

Yes, engine swaps takes a lot of work and effort. And it's not easy physically or mentally. But really, do you have to send out to get motor mounts modified, send out for a crossmember, send out for fuel pump lines, brackets, etc? We swapped a 5-liter into a Pinto in two days ... but my friend took two months to swap a 5-liter into a Mustang, into a car that it was designed to fit into. Both used carbs, so low tech. A factory-style EFI setup would take longer. Some aftermarket EFI is simple, or at least no more complicated than dual sidedrafts.

In the end I'm sure NIS' installation will look better than datgrl's, but how much does it matter to you? When I swapped A14 in, it took me two days just to decide how to make motor mounts. Then they didn't look all that great but worked fine thereafter. I see some of the great work on cars here and think "my work doesn't look that good". But it works.

Maybe it's like this: It took me all day to swap strut inserts, and then somebody in this club said they could change a front springs in 15 minutes. Seems impossible that I could do that, but I'm not saying he didn't.

I use a custom made remote clutch master under the dash.i also have my brake booster under the dash due to lack of room.
I riped all wiring out of the car from the cabin foward and started again.
You will also need a custom tailshaft put in and what radiator will you be running.
Cheers Luke

you guys will probably sigh and shake your heads but I assumed If i remove the complete loom out of the s14 all I need to do is find whats needed and whats not, get rid of whats not and supply power to what needs it, You know dont touch the ecu unit at all, assuming it all works and it should run because its all there, it just needs power.

Hey Hey, if you'd have said "years", I might have thought you were having a go at me
