Well, I am off for 4 months I will be back the beginning of May
Yesterday I had semi-finished mostly everything. I had to do some wiring and figure out how to wire up the new Q45 TPS to the 180SX harness. At about 5pm I was going to call it a day because I was waiting for my buddy to show up with required parts and the shop starts closing at 5:30. He showed up at about 5:02 with my Z32 MAFS and Tomei wiring kit so I hurried up and installed that, hooked up some battery cables and a battery and watched for oddities. I forgot the tuned ECU at home, so all I had was a stock ECU to hook up. I didn't think the stock ECU would work with 555cc injectors, Z32 MAFS, and Q45 throttle body but I guess I was wrong.......
Well back to the car, no sparks popped up when I hooked up the battery cables, that's a good sign. Moved up to the driver's seat and put the key into the ignition. Moving the switch carefully from the OFF to ACC position and watched the radio pop on....SWEET, stuff works again! I hazardously go another click over to the ON position and light up like a Christmas tree when I hear the soothing sounds of the Holley and Walbro pumps filling up the lines and surge tank quick enough to hear the gas dumping back into the tank within about 2 seconds. I excitedly moved the key to the START position and hear ........CLICK.....wow, it's even trying to engage the starter, but it seems like not enough power to get it to fully turn. I ran back, cleaned up the grounds some more and hooked up jumper cables to the Laurel. Went back to give it another try, all I wanted was to hear it turn over and I'd be happy, it shouldn't actually run with the stock ECU in there.
So I go to turn the car over again, the starter engages, turns the engine over, and STARTS the engine as soon as I turned the key! I was so surprised it started that I turned it off right away scared that I did something wrong. Everybody came gathering around in shock to hear the Datsun roar back to life for it's first time with the new transplant. I was in just as much shock as them....those 2.5 weeks I spent learning, trimming, and infusing the 180SX wiring harnesses paid off! I put a lot of theory into that whole process not knowing how picky the ECU/ignition would be not having everything hooked up, I'm so happy it all worked! I added some water, check for any fluid leaks, didn't find any. Let it run for about 5 minutes so it could warm up and burn in the Jet Hot Coatings and burn off any buildup for sitting for nearly a year now. Didn't find any coolant or oil leaks and the intercooler piping seemed to hold up great! I tapped the gas a little bit a few times to see how it felt....OH my GOD that pedal is touchy! This car is going to haul butt!!!
So I met my goal to get the car running before I had to leave, I just can't wait to get back and finish it. I've got lots of motivation now when I return....I've got a running car again!!
