G"day guys,
I've just got the whole thing back together after some gearbox woes and started her up and it ran perfectly, just like when I had pulled it apart. Now yesterday I started it again and it ran ok but had a bit of a miss. Then last night I went out to do the timing and it sounded like it was only running on 2 cylinders and would barely rev until it got so bad it would not idle at all.

I checked the the fault codes on the computer and it's reading 43 which is the TPS sensor circuit. Can anyone help?

TPS has 2 components:

Idle detection circuit:
Test: with engine off disconnect connector that's integrated into the body of the TPS, between top and middle pin, put an ohmmeter. after a couple of degrees of opening the throttle (off-idle) the connection should short. This should occur at about idle_rpm + 200rpm. If this is not set properly, the car will "overfuel" causing the engine to run badly and "flood". I actually had this happen to me in traffic. It was "restarted" by "old skool" methods of starting the car with my foot flat to the floor...NRMA guy figured this out, after recovering from his surprise after he opened the Dattos bonnet and saw the engine.

Throttle Angle Sensor:
The other circuit is a variable resistor from 1.5kOhm to 10kOhm.
Measure resitance between the middle pin to one of the outer pins of the "other connector", which is found cable-tied to a vaccuum hose. If outside of 1kOhm to 10kOhm..this part of the TPS is shagged.

So either the unit is shagged, or you need to fiddle with the TPS idle position adjustment, by loosening the two 8mm bolts on the side of the TPS, and adjusting it as I have advised. This can be done with the engine running, with ECU in Test Mode III. The ECU green status light comes on when the "off-idle" circuit is engaged. Better to have the book to do this.

Hope this helps.

Thanks heaps chris. I replaced the TPS and the fault code has dissapeared. (I didn't go to much effort, a mate around the corner had a spare!).

This is all good and well but the real reason the car wouldn't go was a hmmm lack of petrol.

Somehow in about the last 4 months I have gone through 10 litres of fuel with barely even moving the car. Does the fuel tank hold a small amount of petrol below the outlet? That's the only way I can explain the fact that I put 10 litres in and had already run out.

Sorry to waste your time!
